Bartlett survived the great floods of 2008 end of summer. There were a few low lying areas that were flooded over but for the most part everyone stayed high and dry. The sump pump in my house kept going and I was concerned that I do not have an Ace in the Hole (I really need to get one) or any type of back up but in tune with little water there are also very few occasions that we do not have electric. Another reason Bartlett is a good community to live in. The retention pond behind my home flowed to the top and I saw the most beautiful Bird, Naturally slender with tall long legs just walking around and enjoying it all. I thought it might be a crane but I know little to nothing about birds except Cardinals. I would never have seen it if I had let the water get me down and just stay inside. The way the bird flew away was the most graceful thing I have seen in a long time. Real wildlife in my own back yard. It is rare that a community has this to look at and enjoy. My grandson asked why the bird was so different from what we normally see, and I had no answer except to tell him that God provided it and perhaps he needed the water the rest of us did not want. He looked at me and then raised his camera and took his share of pictures of the magnificent bird.
That having been said here is a photo or two of the soccer fields next to
Apple Orchard Park and of course a photo of Apple Orchard Park where the sign barely peaks above the water line. Of course there were streets that we flooded over and fields filled to the brim but it did rain in record amounts. I enjoyed the time even though it was sometimes filled with anxiety a wanting for dry land. I think it is good to have a place and time for people to just crash and enjoy their families. It is also good to get out and see what is around us.
